Flat-towing a car behind a motorhome needs three things working together: a vehicle the maker says can flat-tow, a proper base plate and tow bar, and supplemental braking. Skip any one and you are outside safety margins — and often outside the law.

Flat towing means all four wheels on the ground, engine typically off, transmission in the exact mode the owner’s manual requires. Many automatics are not rated for it because fluid does not circulate the way the gearbox needs. Model-year guidance changes — the manual for that VIN wins over a forum list.

Read the towing section for your exact year/make/model. “My neighbor flat-tows one” is not approval. Some vehicles need ignition tricks, driveshaft disconnects, or are dolly/trailer only.
Vehicle-specific brackets bolted to the toad’s structure. Match make/model/year — “it kind of fit” is how frames crack.
Rated for the toad’s weight, latched correctly, and used with the safety cables/chains the bar maker requires. Inspect pivots and latches every hookup.
GCWR and hitch ratings still apply. A legal toad can still overload a coach that was already near the edge — weigh when unsure.
Coach brakes were not sized to stop another vehicle’s mass for free. Many states require supplemental braking on the towed car above a weight threshold — thresholds vary, so check the states you drive. Systems that apply the toad’s own brakes when the coach brakes take real work off the motorhome. For lights: use a diode kit or a light bar designed for towing — directly splicing into modern body electronics can damage modules. Follow the kit instructions; we do not publish invented wiring SKUs here.
