Manual blocks and scissor jacks are slow and honest — few moving parts, easy to understand when something is wrong. Hydraulic auto-level is a real convenience upgrade with pumps, lines, sensors, and controllers that fail in ways owners cannot always see. Neither system excuses parking on garbage ground or skipping the fridge maker’s level guidance.

Manual vs hydraulic auto-level
Manual blocks / scissors
Low cost, no pump to strand you. Setup time is the trade. Quality blocks beat stacked lumber. Stabilize after the coach is level — stabilizers are not jacks for lifting gross weight unless the maker says so.
Hydraulic auto-level
One-button convenience when healthy. More failure points: fluid, valves, sensors, wiring, controller logic. Common on many late-model trailers and motorhomes — service needs maker procedures, not guesswork.
Electric jack systems
Another middle path on some trailers. Still need sound ground, battery voltage, and the install sheet for duty cycle and weight limits.
What “level enough” means
Read your absorption fridge manual for its level tolerance — it varies by model. Eyeballing the coffee pot is not a spec.
Why level matters beyond comfort
Absorption refrigerators rely on gravity for the cooling cycle; running far out of level for long periods can hurt cooling and, over time, the cooling unit. Slides seat and seal more reliably when the coach is square. Roof water should drain the way the manufacturer intended — not into a soft spot you created by parking cocked. Auto-level does not fix a soft site; it can only work within jack stroke and ground support.

- Carry blocks rated for the weight you actually place on them
- Confirm fridge level guidance for your exact refrigerator
- On hydraulics: note fluid level/condition per maker; do not invent fluid types
