Visibility and scene safety first

Be seen

Reflective triangles or appropriate warning devices, a high-visibility vest, and a headlamp (hands-free matters). Place devices well back for the speed of the road you are on.

People first

A first-aid kit sized for who is traveling — not a token tin — plus personal meds kept accessible, not buried in a bay.

Weather layer

Gloves, rain shell, and drinking water beat another novelty multitool when you are outside for an hour.

Where you stop

If you can limp to a wide pullout or exit, do. Working in a live lane is a last resort.

Tools and communication

Match fasteners to your rig — a basic socket/hex set, screwdrivers, pliers, electrical tape, zip ties, and a roll of quality tape for temporary holds that get you to a shop. Tire plug kit and a portable compressor you have tested. Jumper cables or a jump pack rated for your chassis battery chemistry. Spare fuses and bulbs for the circuits you actually run. A paper map for the corridor you drive — cell coverage fails exactly where breakdowns hurt most.
